"One France Is Enough" - NYTimes.com

I posted this comment:

"My "home" is divided between two worlds - one here in North Carolina and one there in Nice, France. I am both a US and European citizen. Roger COHEN presents this in far too extreme manner, and that is good for debate but not so good for understanding. When Barack OBAMA first visited Nice, many years ago, he and Michelle came on the train, it has been reported.

Whether it be transportation or health care, or a focus on eating well, and yes, even innovation and opportunity...these two great countries have far more to learn from one another than often happens. That's learning about things done well and things done not so well. Language gets in the way too often and reliance on interpreters like COHEN or me is no substitute not just for visiting, but for trying to understand.

I retain optimism that our President recognizes the need for extraordinary action taken with American determination .... learning and relating to what others have done in places from France to Japan and well beyond. If our policy pendulum swings a little more wildly or far than some of us would like, we'll get it back. Maybe we won't have General Motors or AIG to kick around, and huge suffering if that happens, but I for one remain optimistic that we can get ourselves out of this mess with a plan that is as much global as it is American, and that includes a good dose of French seasoning."
