Pharmacies
Comparing the US and France is fascinating nowhere more than on the subject of pharmacies. Yesterday, I stopped at a pharmacy to ask the price of an over-the-counter medication. The pharmacist said they did not have the bottle size in stock and would have to order it. I asked at 4:30PM and she told me that they could have it for me at the pharmacy in 1.5 hours! In the US generally?

In France, Women Are Free
Posted here:
"I have read the original French and this is not a very good translation. But I think it points up one critically important difference between the US and France. There, in France, power really starts with the government; here in the US, we start off with the power being in each of us as individuals. The problem in this case is that a woman's fundamental rights should not depend on such a difference of governmental structure; they should prevail no matter what is the system of government. So, too, for us men! We can all express horror over the French actions on the Burkini and on other matters, but the only way rights can be won, as they should be, is to force France to accept that fundamental human rights are not open to government tinkering or abridgment. That will not happen in the current political environment in France, and it is not at all clear that the European Court of Human Rights will resolve this fundamental problem."

"France est un pays avec le pouvoir principal dans l'etat et aux E-U, nous sommes un pays qui commence avec les droits, individuels, des hommes et des femmes. Ca s'explique, je pense, un grand morceau des opinions differentes sur la question des vetements sur la plage."

If accurate, this is pretty interesting. Ariachauff is a company with which we contract to look after our heating and air conditioning systems in France. When I went to this listing, it appears to show the revenues of the company for 2015. How unexpected as I do not think this sort of information is available on companies in the US.

Weather
One of the things I would like to discuss here in more detail is the difference between the US and France when it comes to consuming weather. While digital tools are making localization of weather information easier to obtain and to use, the general practice remains to cover ALL of France when presenting the weather on television, and on many radio stations - which, like the television - are national in coverage. In the US, we get national weather occasionally on television, mostly in the morning on the network shows, but the local stations really are local and cover only the area the station serves, which makes sense.
It seems to be a case of where structure imposed by a governmental organizational scheme may trump what people want. I would love to see the "want" question explored more and to understand what people in each country really want from their weather service. The same? Different? If so, how, in what way?
