Gas prices
I looked this morning at the price for non-leaded 95 gasoline. It's 1.53/liter, so that makes roughly 6 euros/gallon so that makes it roughly 8.25 USD/gal.

It's curious to see the difference in appeal between stage and screen, even with big names in the later. How will it be received in France, I wonder?

DSK and Conspiracy Theory - NYTimes.com
I am not sure the "average" French person is a lot different than the "average" person in the US. I think Roger COHEN needs to get out more when writing columns like this.

France’s View of Strauss-Kahn Case Tinted by Courts’ Differences - NYTimes.com
Well, we surely can improve our mutual understanding.
French Press - NYTimes.com
From my experience, listening to a few and judging the many is not the best path toward understanding. I could cite an equal number of people who both know and understand looking in both directions than the people quoted here. It's so hard to resist sweeping generalizations and it surely proved to be the case here.
Book Review - The Greater Journey - Americans in Paris - By David McCullough - NYTimes.com
I don't think anyone has yet captured the full extent of the impact each country and its people, culture, etc has had on the other. We tend to get blinded by the headlights of stars and trendy news, and fail to think about basics like why we eat corn on the cob in the US and the thought remains alien, at best, in France....or why a Subway fast food place looks the same in each country (but are the menus the same?).

It sure seems to me that we wind up with a lot more glass bottles to recycle in France than in the US. I wonder if there are any statistics on this to support my perception?
