"The Next Big Story: My Journey Through the Land of Possibilities" - Soledad O'Brien
It's prettty interesting - listening to an interview with her about why she has to "appear" in stories she reports that rarely do French television news correspondents appear in their stories. We hear their voices, but don't see useless shots of them in made up circumstances, so often. Instead, the entire story is about the story and not about beauty shots of the "reporter".

"French Court Rejects Noriega's Request for Release" - NYTimes.com
How interesting it would be to get him to talk about his experiences in the US and French justice systems! The time to do this is probably before they return him to Panama.
"In France, Civil Unions Gain Favor Over Marriage" - NYTimes.com
There are many opportunities to learn from comparing French circumstances with those in the United States.

Unemployment and trade
The French unemployment rate is about 9.7% (from September 2010) and the US is at 9.6% (as of today).
Trade statistics are worth spending more time analyzing. What I would like to come up with is a really good sense of exactly what specific products and services "made in the USA" and "made in France" are traveling to the other country. Start withthe totals and then break it down in as detailed fashion as possible. Our countries have much in common in every respect, but my sense, for example, is that there are far fewer food items imported or at least sold as imported from the US in France than the other way around. But that is a thesis to be tested, and it requires sorting out things like a box of Kellogg's cereal. That actually is made in France for the French market, I believe, and so is really a French product with a US name. We can count that separately, I think.

"Dealgroop.com"
A trainer in a gym seems to cost, normally, about 50 euros/hr if you buy 10 sessions. In NC, that 65 USD fee would be about 90.

Watching US television program on the internet in Nice
I occasionally check to see what television programming I can access with my French internet connection while in France.
There is little problem with any audio, I and I am generally able to access any radio station in the US, including all of public radio, without any problem.
When it comes to television, however, the story is far different.
I am able to access and watch the PBS Newshour, NBC Nightly News, but not the Daily Show on Comedy Central, or most other US television programming. I will do some more tests and add any other specific programs here.

This is a difficult situation, but I believe that the law is not the right solution.
Price of wine
How/why is it France that one can find so many bottles of perfectly respectable table wine for under $3 and in the US, the only one I have found is at Trader Joe's? (Actually, I guess there are 3 or 4 there, all house brand, and I find the syrah to be especially good.)

"U.S. Issues Terrorism Alert for Travel to Europe" - NYTimes.com
Security for all of us is surely one of those shared French and US issues. The most rationale approach to safeguarding the people remains one worthy of discussion and debate between and among us.

Prime Number - NYTimes.com
This is more than twice as expensive as in Italy where a carton costs about 38 euros or 45 USD. That's about 4.50 USD/pack. In France, it is more.

"Special Report - Business of Green - In Paris, Electric Cars May Join Rental Bikes" - NYTimes.com
This is all getting to be a lot like "renting" a grocery cart while shopping. Here in France, unlike the US, the general rule is that you leave a deposit of about 1.25 USD before taking the cart for a spin. You get the money back if you return the cart. If we are lucky, automobiles will be much the same - cheap, easy to borrow, and perhaps even provided at someone else's expense in some situations.

French interest
The internet segment of the morning Telematin program today featured both the Timescast launch at the BIDEN gaff over the health measure. I rarely see this focus on anything in the US.
